• Question: How long would you survive in space with no helmet

      Not long I imagine – there would be a huge pressure difference (it’s a vacuum) but I’m not sure how that would affect you… but you’d die of suffocation pretty quickly as there’s no air.

      A few seconds at most. There’s no atmosphere in space, so the pressure is much much less than it is here on earth – this would cause all of the liquids and gases in your head and body to expand – your veins and arteries carrying your blood would burst, as would your lungs – it would be very unpleasant. This is why it’s important or spacesuits to have many layers in them – to keep oxygen in and to keep the pressure at the right level (as well as to keep warm – it is far below freezeing in space).

      I think it would depend where in space you were….like if you were on the Moon or a planet that wasn’t Earth you might survive longer that in ‘outer’ space.
      Generally I think you would die pretty much instantly though!
