I don’t think of myself as clever just interested in stuff and how it all works and why and what happens next and can I make things it just goes on.

Haha! Well, I read a lot of things from books and online (wikipedia has lots of useful information – the news always tells us new things). Remember, although we know a lot about our research, we don’t know everything!

Firstly, I’ve never thought of myself as ‘clever’. I certainly know people who I think are a lot cleverer than I am!

Sometimes people come across as clever because they’ve had a lot of experience doing something or just because they’ve spend years learning things! Don’t forget, we’ve all spent 8 or more years studying after school – and some of us have now finished studying and gone on to jobs.

So don’t worry, we know we’re not fooling you guys, we’re not so clever as all that!

Hehe I never think I’m clever! In relation to the people at work and others I’ve met I feel really thick 😀
I guess different people are good at different things and for me, its physics. I could never do a PhD in History for example!

Most scientists are highly trained specialists in just one or two areas. I might know about astrophysics but I know nothing about plumbing or the theory of music. After doing my A-Levels I spent the best part of a decade continuing my education, getting ever more specialised and focussed on astrophysics. It’s been hard work and a lot of fun. During a PhD one of the things you really learn is that you know a lot less than you thought about almost everything 🙂
