If there was proof, I don’t think there would be as many religious disputes as there are. I don’t know if there is a heaven or hell…and we probably won’t know until we die!
Good question. It depends on what you believe in! Some people think heaven is somewhere above the Earth and hell is in the centre of the Earth. But we haven’t seen either with telescopes, so where are they? Maybe they are in a parallel universe, or maybe they don’t exist. I think they exist in another subconcious, or maybe our souls go somewhere else when we die that isn’t our universe. What do you think?
There is no evidence for heaven or hell in our physical universe. Whether you believe there are places and worlds beyond our normal reality, inhabited by spiritual beings, deities, gods and messiahs, is up to you of course. I’d say that there is no need to believe in such things, but by and large people seem to want to.
There is a concept I always think about when questions like this come up – the God of the Gap. Historically, God is invoked to fill in gaps in our knowledge – but then science comes along and explains something and we don’t need God to fill that gap anymore. This is a one-way street and the things we need God to explain diminish all the time. You might therefore think that actually there is no God, just things we don’t understand yet.
