I was really happy last year when I was recognised by Oxford University for all the work I’ve done going into schools and presenting science to students, they gave me an award called the Vice Chancellors Civic Award. I got to go to a big fancy ceremony and meet the Vice Chancellor (he’s one of the TOP guys at Oxford Uni). It was really special and it was really nice that they appreciated all the hours I’d put in 🙂
I’ve also met a number of nobel prize winners, the science minister (the previous one…) and the Director General of CERN, which were also great things to have happen!
In my actual work, the best thing that happened was when we finally got the experimental machine I was working on running with a beam going around it! After 12 hours of shift, that was a great feeling!
Ever or today?
Today I’ve enjoyed chatting to you all.
Ever…hm in terms of science I guess when we’ve found out something new and we are the first ones to find that out. In terms of funny things, well there are loads of great things that have happened at work but I can’t tell you because what happens at work stays at work! 😉
Last week they filmed a Bollywood film here in the astrophysics department – that was pretty cool!
In general I go all over the place for work and have seen and done some great things. Going observing on Mauna Kea in Hawaii was incredible – visiting Rio de Janeiro for the International Astronomical Union meeting was also amazing.
